Prof. Zexiang Li

Prof. Li is a professor of HKUST and a renowned entrepreneur. During the last 25 years, he has founded and incubated more than 100 startups with a survival rate of more than 80%, among them, there are a number of famous unicorns such as DJI, NARWAL, Ecoflow,CiDI,and public listed company Googal Tech. He is also the founder of Hong Kong InnoX Academy, Shenzhen InnoX Academy and XbotPark.

He received his Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley. He had held previous positions at MIT's AI Lab and the Robotics Lab of NYU. And currently he is a professor at the ECE department of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)。He received the IEEE Robotics and Automation Technical Field Award in 2019

Wei Ma

Dr. Wei Ma

Dr. Wei Ma is a veteran Silicon Valley technologist with 20+ years of technical management experience. He worked as director of system research for 8 years in National Semiconductor Labs and 6 years for Texas Instrument’s Kilby Labs in Silicon Valley. He also founded and worked in a number of smaller size companies and startups in US and Singapore. He returned China in 2017 and co-founded CiDi and has acted as CEO. He has grown the company from zero to a 500 people unicorn company and revenue reached ¥500m. In addition, Dr. Wei Ma is also an expert in industrial strategy and innovation methodologies, with in-depth research on intelligent connected vehicles and autonomous driving products.

Dr. Ma received Ph.D. from University of Surrey, UK and an expert in the fields of signal processing, processor architecture, embedded systems, wireless communications, and intelligent driving.

Changsha Intelligent Driving Institute (CiDi) was founded in October 2017, and focuses on technological innovation and execution to create practical intelligent driving products for commercial vehicles. Founded by Professor Li Zexiang – renowned robotics entrepreneur and professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology – CiDi is a unicorn enterprise in autonomous driving.

CiDi’s vision is "Towards a Better Life Together with Intelligent Driving". We are committed to building innovative products in intelligent driving and vehicle-to-infrastructure technology that help make transportation safer, more efficient, and sustainable.

As the industry’s earliest autonomous driving company to lay out cooperative vehicle-to-road technology, CiDi products encompass "smart vehicles" and "intelligent roads", including autonomous heavy trucks, unmanned electric mining trucks, and driverless logistics vehicles for industrial parks. With a rich suite of products for cooperative vehicles, CiDi provides multiple types of intelligent networking solutions for connected vehicle pilot areas, dual-intelligence cities, and smart expressways – allowing intelligent vehicles to take full advantage of digital infrastructure.

CiDi headquarters are situated in Changsha, with subsidiaries covering Northern China (Tianjin), Northwest China (Chongqing, Chengdu), Southwest China (Liuzhou) and Southern China (Shenzhen). At present, CiDi has a team of more than 500 employees, with R&D comprising 76%, and more than 50% of the team holding PhDs or master’s degrees.

Chongqing
NovoDrive Chongqing Intelligent Automobile Co., Ltd. was established in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area in May 2020, and is the first wholly-owned subsidiary of CiDi outside Changsha. At present, the Chongqing branch has set up a complete industrial innovation team, including for autonomous driving and intelligent connected vehicle technology R&D, as well as production and sales. The branch maintains technical interoperability with Changsha headquarters to achieve rapid breakthroughs in corporate strategic goals.
Tianjin
The CiDi Tianjin Branch was established in December 2020 as a business development and technical service base for North China (North China, Northeast China, Northwest China). With its strategic proximity to the Tianjin national connected vehicle pilot zone, the team’s goal is to combine CiDi’s core technologies and industry strength to create a global benchmark in pilot demonstrations of intelligent connectivity.
Chengdu
Chengdu Science and Technology Innovation Investment Group led the C round financing of CiDi in 2022. In April 2022, CiDi (Chengdu) Technology Co., Ltd. was registered and established in Chengdu High-tech Zone, aiming to build an intelligent driving and intelligent connected vehicle R&D center and intelligent manufacturing center, localized in Chengdu by relying on CiDi’s technical advantages and product iteration capabilities accumulated in intelligent driving and intelligent transportation.
Liuzhou
Liuzhou Branch was established in May 2022, focusing on the deep exploration of autonomous vehicle and vehicle-road cooperativity business in the Western region. We fully integrate into Liuzhou's policy and industrial supply chain, accelerating and scaling the company's autonomous commercial vehicles, vehicle-road cooperative products, and vehicle connectivity solutions. Liuzhou provides the opportunities to expand our strength and advantages into both the Western regions and Southeast Asia.
Xiangyang
Founded in October 2022, the Xiangyang Branch focuses on technical needs of the intelligent connected automobile industry. Building an engineering application base in Xiangyang allows us to undertake innovation, manufacturing, inspection and testing, and regional sales services of the company's core intelligent connected vehicle products, helping to drive sustainable development of Xiangyang’s connected vehicle industry.
Shenzhen
Established in February 2023, Shenzhen Branch is CiDi’s strategic location for the Greater Bay Area and overseas markets.
Hainan
The Hainan Branch was established in March 2023. Based on CiDi’s rich experience in city-scale intelligent connected networking and associated ecosystem involvement, CiDi will deeply participate in the construction of Hainan National Connected Vehicle Pilot Zone and Hainan Island Tourism Highway Intelligent Connectivity Project. 2023.06
In June 2023, CiDi together with DFLZ released the "Chenglong Pilot MAX" intelligent electric logistics solution, and officially launched the first logistics park unmanned commercial operation without onboard drivers. CiDi hosted the WTC2023 "National Public Transit City Innovation Development Seminar".
2023.05
In May 2023, CiDi cooperated with Sinotruck Group Chengdu Commercial Vehicle and Medalid Hureh Zam LLC of Mongolia to officially sign a cooperation agreement for new-energy mining. The first batch of unmanned electric mining truck with 70-ton payload entered the market successfully at the Zhangjiajie Liyi Mine.

In April 2023, CiDi was listed on the Hurun 2023 Global Unicorn List. CiDi assisted Hubei (Xiangyang) obtain a license to operate a National Connected Vehicle Pilot Zone. Secretary of Pingshan District Party Committee visited Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone and signed a memorandum of cooperation. CiDi teamed up with Xiamen King Long to launch an intelligent connected commuter bus.

In March 2023, CiDi signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Wuhan Bus Manufacturing to build a smart mine in Huaxin Wuxue.

In February 2023, CiDi was listed on the Forbes China 2022 Global Unicorn list.

In January 2023, the TCC Jiangsu Jurong was successfully certified by the National Institute of Metrology of China, measuring better performance for the CiDi unmanned electric mine truck over manned diesel mining trucks in production efficiency, safety and fuel economy.

In December 2022, Shenzhen Pingshan District signed a contract with the lead ing C-V2X enterprises including CiDi to carry out cooperation.

In November 2022, delivering proprietary technology, CiDi deployed 14 autonomous pure electric mining vehicles covering the open-pit mine at Taiwan Cement Corporation (TCC) in Jiangsu Jurong.

In September 2022, CiDi signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Liudong New District to jointly build a China-Asean intelligent network industrial ecosystem, and participated in 2022 C-V2X Four Layers Interoperability (Liuzhou) demonstration activity.

In March 2022, together with DFLZ, CiDi won the first autonomous driving heavy semi-trailer truck test license in China for open-road logistics.

In November 2021, the white paper of Intelligent Network precision bus solution was released. CIDI starts the strategic cooperation with Tencent.

In July 2020, CiDi helped deploy the largest active bus priority project in China, and installing intelligent edge computing technology abroard more than 2,000 smart buses.

In November 2019, CiDi’s released the "V2X+ Smart Bus" solution to initiate the first step in digital urban transportation.

In September 2019, CiDi reached cooperation with DFLZ, Foton Daimler and Beiben. Changsha's "Double 100" open-road was launched, and CiDi provided a complete vehicle-road collaborative roadside solution with holographic sensing capabilities for intelligent highways.

In June 2019, CiDi won the first cross-provincial license – the Zhejiang Intelligent Connected Vehicle open road test license – and becomes an autonomous driving enterprise with four road test licenses.
